Spring Cleaning Tips
As the spring season approaches, many are looking forward to a change in weather. With that also comes the desire for a refresh in the home , whether that be rearranging the furniture, adding plants to the home, packing away the winter clothes, or doing a deep cleaning. Spring cleaning is yearly tradition of thoroughly cleaning your home from top to bottom, typically in the springtime when the weather starts to warm up. It's a time to deep clean and declutter your living spaces. While it can be a daunting task, with a little planning, spring cleaning can be a breeze. Here are some tips for planning a deep clean this spring.
Make a plan
Before you start cleaning, create a checklist of tasks and prioritize them based on the importance and time required to complete them. Take a look around and decide which areas need the most work. What areas do you tend to skip pass during regular cleaning? Once you have your task list started, make a schedule. This will help you stay organized and focused.
Declutter
Sort through your belongings by going through all drawers, closets, and shelves. Get rid of any items that you no longer need or use. Donate, sell or dispose of them responsibly. Make sure to dust or wipe down shelves and items. Be sure to vacuum floors and wipe down all spaces once you have finished sorting out old belongings.
Go room by room
Start with the room that needs the most attention and move on to the next once you're finished. This will help you stay focused and avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Clean from top to bottom
Clean from top to bottom to ensure you don’t spread around more dirt or dust while cleaning. When you begin with the highest surfaces first, any dust or debris falls onto lower surfaces which can be cleaned up later, saving you from the trouble of having to clean twice.
Clean your windows and walls
Dust not only collects on the floor and under crevices, but it also settles on walls and windows. Simply wipe walls and blinds with a damp towel. Be sure to also clean your windows inside and out to let in more natural light.
Deep clean your kitchen
Clean your appliances, cabinets, countertops, and floors thoroughly. Be sure to pull out appliances to clean behind and under as well. Go through all cabinets and pantries and throw out any old or expired goods. Organize any goods by keeping older or soon to expire items in the front and moving newer items to the back.
Refresh your bedding
Wash your sheets, pillowcases, and comforter or duvet cover. Consider switching to lighter bedding for the warmer months. Once bedding has been stripped from mattress, vacuum and dust around. Be sure to vacuum under the bedframe. Once new bedding has been changed over, be sure to vacuum the floor as any dust or other particles may have been thrown off previous bedding.
Clean your bathroom thoroughly
Scrub the bathtub, shower, sink, toilet, and floors. Replace your shower curtain liner if necessary. Be sure to wash or vacuum any bathroom rugs. Wipe down mirrors and bathroom fans. For a little extra flair, add a scented candle or air freshener.
Organize your closet
Sort through your clothes and donate or sell anything that you no longer wear. Organize your remaining clothes by category and color for easy access. Be sure to wash any clothes that have been stored away during winter.
Freshen up your outdoor spaces
Sweep your patio, deck, or porch, and wash down outdoor furniture. Plant some flowers or herbs to add some color and fragrance to your yard.
Remember to take breaks as needed and enlist the help of family or friends if possible. With these tips, your spring cleaning will be a breeze!
